Around 50 plant species belong to the genus Stock (also known as Matthiola) in the mustard family (Brassicaceae). It is one of the most important species used in the floral and horticulture sectors. While many cultivars and garden versions are red, crimson, yellow, and deep purple, the plants have narrow, oval, deep green leaves and 60–80 cm (25–30 inch) spikes of lilac to white, four-petaled blooms.
