SILVER TORCH CACTUS

Scientific Name: Cleistocactus strausii

Common Names: Silver Torch Cactus

Description: The Silver Torch Cactus is a striking succulent with a tall, columnar form and a fuzzy appearance.

Size: In its natural habitat (high mountain regions of Bolivia and surrounding areas), it can grow to be a massive tree cactus, reaching heights of 30-50 feet (9-15 meters) or more.

Stems:

  • The defining feature is the thick, cylindrical, and upright stems. These stems are usually a greyish-green color and have around 25 ribs running vertically.
  • The stems are densely covered in white or yellowish areoles (small bumps) that produce clusters of fine spines.

Flowers:

  • Mature Silver Torch cacti produce deep red to burgundy flowers in late summer.

Uses: Popular due to:
